A HOLIDAY TRIP TO DOWNTOWN ST LOUIS

A little touch of holidays of old in downtown St Louis
We started our journey on the Metrolink from Shrewsbury instead of a streetcar from south city. We visited Macy's one decorated window instead of multiple decorated windows of Famous Barr of old times. [we remember when every window of Famous was decorated plus windows at Stix Baer & Fuller and Scruggs Vanderburt & Barney] There is two names from the past for you to think about.

Photo two is not one of my best but it is taken through two corner windows to try and show the multiple trains that are running. [Macy's only decorated window] Our memory is you had to fight huge crowds in order to work your way to the front yet today we walked right up to the window.
The next four photos are two grandkids playing at a special display in the St Louis downtown public library.[first time in the downtown library in over 55 years]
The grandkids enjoyed the trip especially riding on Metrolink and the grandparents enjoyed the memories of holiday downtown visits with their grandparents. [I could still taste the fried chicken from the Forum cafeteria]

MY FRIEND RICHARD DOLAN
I first met Rich in the winter of 1962 or 1963. I can remember this only because our meeting coincides with a surprise career promotion that I received. Nancy and I with our {very} young family decided to visit the former Glendale Church of Christ. Rich and Barb, Then called us at least two or three times inviting us to there home and we always had to say no as I was having to leave town for my job. We were finally able to visit there home and in addition to meeting them we also met a {very} young Will and Phyllis Haynes visiting at the same time. From that simple home visit as the years went by the six of us all became friends.
The photos are all 1991 vintage as McKnight Rd. Sent Rich and I to San Paulo Brazil to visit our missionaries Robert and Susan Grissom. This trip is simply one of the highlights of my life. In addition to the traveling experience spending ten days with Rich was special. Rich, and I served together two different times as an elder at McKnight Rd and his wisdom, gentleness, knowledge and compassion was a constant strength for the elders to rely on.

If you ever spoke publicly at McKnight Rd it did not take you long to discover the encouragement of Rich's smile and body language. You could overcome a lot of nervousness by looking for Rich in the audience.
Rich was a brick layer and in the early seventies he laid the blocks for bath house number two at camp Ne O Tez and taught me how to be his helper. My job was to stir the cement and carry the blocks.
Rich and Barb two servants of God that I am so thankful allowed Nancy and I to be there friend.
Rich is very sick right now and I encourage you to keep Rich and his family in your prayers.

MY PERSONAL TOP SEVEN EVENTS OF 2006

It was very hard to choose my personal top seven events of 06 as this was an exciting year for Nancy and I. The choices are listed in chronological order not numerical order.
The first photo represents a week at the beach at Boca Ratan Florida in November. Anytime we can walk the beach we are in earthly heaven.

A fall day in October participating in family day at Camp Ne O Tez
It was simply a good day of fun, recreation, and fellowship.

A great summer day at the Stone ranch with family and friends.

Kelsey at her grade school graduation.

Focus on the red stadium chairs as they represent
A- The old stadium
B- The new stadium
C- I attended my tenth world series game. This was the second time I saw a first world series game ever played at a new stadium. Game three in 1967 and 2006 were each played in a new St Louis stadium.
D- Who knows what the future might hold for me and my life time association with the Cardinals.

Bob Petit of the old St Louis Hawks posing with yours truly. Thanks to Steve Haupt I was able to attend a reunion of the St Louis Hawks at the MO Athletic Club. Steve knew someone who was a member of the club. This year went too fast but IT WAS A GOOD YEAR!!!!!!!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

MORE CHRISTMAS PAST!!!!!!
The first photo is from Christmas 1991 and I am holding my oldest grandson Todd. It is still hard for me to remember that at one time in my life I had some hair and wore glasses.
The second photo is from 1983 and is of my grandfather. He died within about ninety days of this picture and thirty days before he would have reached his 97th birthday.
I hope that my family and friends have enjoyed the photos from the past. I have certainly enjoyed going through lots of old photos to find the right ones.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!!

MORE CHRISTMAS PAST!!!!!!!
Believe it or not this is Christmas day 1966 in independence MO. I wore a t-shirt and obviously Nancy is wearing only a sweater while playing with sherri's dog Tinker. The temperature was in the 70's and the very next day the state patrol would not let us drive on I-70 due to the huge snowfall. We wanted to take my mother to the bus station in Kansas City for her return home to St Louis but could not enter I-70.
The next photo is Sherri by HERSELF in 1964. I always hear there are no photos of her without her older sister's arm around her. This is proof positive there is at least one photo with her alone.
The third photo is Terri's first Christmas in 1961 and first visit with Santa Claus.
The fourth photo is also from 1961 and of course it features Aunt Annie along with Terri.

The fourth photo is Christmas card 1963 and is the first card featuring both girls. The fifth photo is Christmas card 1964. I guess by the time Edward came along we were out of the photo card business.
Last but not least is Christmas 1964 and features Aunt Annie and her baby brother Uncle Jimmie.
HO Ho !!! There still might be more from Christmas past.
