Here are some thoughts from someone far from a baseball expert:
Given the age of players these days, do you think advice from McGwire might resonate more than his predecessor? He did have a pretty decent on base % at least. That's worth something.
I imagine quite a few players were at an impressionable age when Mark was World Series MVP in Oakland, and when he was making headlines, saving Baseball (with Sosa) and ripping the HR's...juiced or not.
Could this have been a concession to keep Tony for another year?
I'm sure glad of second chances..notwithstanding his horrible Senate testimony...it's helped me out quite a bit through life..
